The French Embassy in Moscow declared a strike

26.04.2006, 19:41
According to information received with reference to curriers of Russian travel agencies the French Embassy in Moscow declared a strike that might result in a scandalous situation - if the work of the Consulate is paralyzed around 3, 000 tourists will not get French visas, Vzglyad reported.
In order to learn more about the situation a BANKO correspondent contacted the Press Service of the French Embassy where the information about the strike was partly confirmed: ‘those who work in the Embassy upon the local contract will be on strike called by labor unions on April 27th. However, the Embassy will try to process all applications accepted’.
Nevertheless, Russian travel market players are concerned about the current situation. Besides, the majority point out to a strange coincidence: workshop and other PR events held in Moscow under the aegis of the French region Rona-Alps were scheduled for April 27th. Thus, Svetlana Kurkovich, Tourism Director of Inna Tour, stated as follows: ‘the situation is unfavourable for both Russian tour operators and for the French delegation from Rona-Alps – representatives of ski resorts, hotels and tourism offices’.
BANKO will continue reporting on the development of events.
