Tour operating companies that specialize in Spanish market divided opinions regarding perspectives of the summer season 2006. On the one hand they forecast the increase in demand by 15-20% due to the interest in Spain of Russian tourists that has been flourishing for two years. On the other hand, travel market players expect summer 2006 to be highly competitive.
For example, Natalie Tours plan to increase the volume of sales by 30% by means of cost-effective and capacious Boeing – 747 and earlier sales start. Vladimir Vorobiev, President of the company commented on the situation as follows: ‘we intend to increase our share of the market from 53% to 57%. Besides, offers for the summer season are already available on our web site, one month earlier than usually’.
Furthermore, TEZ TOUR Travel Company joined the pool of Spanish newsmakers. In the interview to a BANKO correspondent Vladimir Kaganer, General Director of the company, said that they plan to launch a charter flights to Mallorca twice a week. However, he pointed out that a launch of a charter program ‘will mean only the extension of the assortment not the expansion’. Travel market experts believe that a launch of one more charter program to Mallorca in addition to consolidated flight by Vremya-tour and flights twice a week organized by Natalie Tours might lead to oversupply. Making the same forecasts for the continental Spain, travel market players hope to avoid unreasonable competition. ‘We believe we will be able to avoid oversupply’, commented Evgeny Cherepov, the Head of Booking Department of VKO Travel.
It is interesting that travel market experts making forecasts for Spanish market take into account the dynamics of the Turkish market. Spain might lose a number of budget tourists in case there are special offers for Turkey. According to experts, second half of May and the beginning of June may become the most problematic period. But anyway fight for tourists will be won by tourists themselves.
