On September 20th a BANKO correspondent continued interviewing travel market experts regarding the situation in Thailand and its consequences for the travel industry. Yamlong Ratanapan, Managing Director of International Markets Development Department of the Ministry of Thailand, commented on the situation as followed: ‘yesterday the situation was tense, but it has normalized during the night. At the moment tourists can travel freely to any part of the country as nothing threatens them. According to previous experience, aggravation of the situation will not repeat. There is nothing to worry about’. Furthermore, Piyapan Atipatya, Second Secretary of the Royal Thai Embasssy, stated: ‘situation in Bangkok and in the whole country is under control. It has not affected foreign tourists… Moreover, we do not expect any further problems’. Suvalay Pinpradab, Director of Thai Tourism Office, said: ‘I have contacted incoming companies in Thailand today – there were no tour cancellations by Russian tour operating companies. I believe, there is no reason to worry’. Despite the calming information fro Thai market representatives, the consequences of the change of power in the country might appear later. BANKO will continue reporting on the development of events.
