Ekaterinburg travel companies have summarized the results of their May
sales, with experts believing that May figures offer clues for the coming
summer season.
This May, Egypt and the UAE have beaten all previous records. Sergey Buzko explained that 'At the moment tourists are booking tours to Egypt for June. It's the highest sales depth ever for the destination'.
Meanwhile, Turkey has lost its' market leader position. Buzko stated that 'It is not warm enough in Turkey in May. Besides, Russian people are tired of the country. At present the popularity of European destinations is growing - Greece, Italy and Spain are at the top of the list of travel priorities'.
Local travel companies have also commented on the increase in air traffic volume from the Ekaterinburg region. Flights to two new destinations - Tivat and Iraklion - were launched this Spring. Moreover, the number of flights to traditional destinations also increased. Olga Sverchkova, Vice-president of the Ekaterinburg based agency Fund of the World sounded a cautious note about the new flights, stating that 'Many of the planned flights have an uncertain future. For example, air traffic volume to Rimini in this season has doubled. From my point of view, it's excessive'.
But more carriers brings some good news; two new airline companies have entered the market - Turkish Airlines and Vladivostok Avia, flying to Turkey from Ekaterinburg. And Buzko explained that 'For their promotion campaign Turkish Airlines set very attractive prices. Vladivostok Avia is aimed at shop tours. It also offered good tariffs. As a result, Urals Airlines have had to reduce ticket costs to Istanbul. Before, a flight to Istanbul with Urals Airlines cost $400; at the moment it is around $300'.
