The subject that generated greatest interest on professional forum on www.tourdom.ru was the possible introduction of a non-visa regime for those traveling to Thailand. In order to clear up the situation, a BANKO correspondent contacted the Thai Embassy in Moscow, where the information was not confirmed. According to consulate agents, it is planned to introduce a non-visa regime but it is too early to realize the plan. We remind you that at the moment Thai visas are issued either in the consulate in Moscow or on arrival to Thailand with visas being valid for 2 weeks. Consulate fee is $25.
Meanwhile, tour operators believe that the introduction of a non-visa regime will not stimulate tourist flow to even without it popular Thailand.
Furthermore, travel market players outline that the change of passport validity period, which at present has a six-month limit, would be more efficient and could stimulate tourist flow to the country.
Alexander Abramov, Director of Aniko-tour agrees. According to him, the tourist flow to Thailand is constantly increasing in spite of the current visa regime. He also considers a passport validity period to be the main obstacle.
However, nothing is planned to be changed in this respect mostly due to a six-month limit adopted by all South-Eastern countries except Malaysia.
