Sheremetevo Under Construction

   On April 5th a BANKO correspondent received detailed information regarding the changes within the work of the international Airport Sheremetevo. Thus, the airport will not handle charter flights, however, it is planned to offer night slots (from 11p.m. to 6.30 a.m.) to charter airline companies during the summer season. The changes are conditioned by the reconstruction of one of the flight landing strips of the airport: ‘the capacity of the airport has reduced by 20%, therefore, we have to take restrictive measures’, explained Anna Zakharenkova, the Head of the Airport Press Service.
    Such a situation will continue until October 28th. At the moment charter flights of AviaEnergo and Continental Airlines have been cancelled. Nadejda Savina, Commercial Director of Continental Airlines, commented as follows: ‘now we can realize only scheduled flights, nevertheless, we do not plan to work with other airports’. Moreover, some aircraft of Continental Airlines is used at present on Aeroflot scheduled flights.
   According to Zakharenkova, only BACO Airlines realizes day flights from Sheremetevo that attracted clients of Continental Airlines, for example, on Moscow – Dubai route. However, LTU and EUROFLY – BACO foreign colleagues – have already accepted the proposal to realize night charter flights from Sheremetevo.
   Meanwhile, the subject that generates the interest behind the scenes of the Russian travel market is possible prolongation of charter flights restrictions to 1,5-2 years due to the longer reconstruction period.
