Russian tour operators that specialize in the Egyptian travel market emphasize that despite the negative information in mass media the explosions in Dahab will not affect the tourist flow from Russia to Egypt.
Initially Dahab is not in great demand on the Russian market. Thus, Anna Podgornaya, General Sales Manager of Pegas Touristik, commented as follows: ‘Dahab is mainly a resort for Egyptian tourists. Our clients prefer resorts which are located close to Sharm-el-Sheikh Airport’.
Nevetheless, tour operators expect a sales slowdown after May holidays; however, pointing out the situation will stabilize by summer: ‘moreover, the period after May Holiday is traditionally marked with an optimization of tourist flow’, said Mikhail Ioffe, the Head of Egypt Department of Tourenergoservice.
Meanwhile, the explosions provoked active discussion on the professional travel portal www.tourdom.ru. According to participants of the forum very few cancellations of tours to Egypt have been registered, however the majority of travel market players pointed out that Russian tourists tend to ask for discounts on Egyptian packages.
The Department of Information of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation informed a BANKO correspondent that at the moment the resort is closed due to the investigation procedures. In explosion one Russian tourist died and one was injured.
On April 25th Denis Romanov, Director of Russian Sky in Dahab reported from the resort: ‘we had only one cancellation of a tour to Dahab due to explosions. It is especially popular among divers. There is a drop in demand on the European market, but the explosions have not affected the tourist flow from Russia’.
