Russian tour operating companies that specialize in Cyprus have announced their charter plans. You may recall from earlier News Bulletins that a month ago they withheld comments on their charter plans due to lack of contracts with airline companies (news/ 15.03). Thus, two charter programs will be added to three existing flights to Larnaka.
Firstly, Super Nova Travel Company in co-operation with VIM-avia will operate its own flights twice a week by Boeing-757 starting from April 28th – as it was announced at the presentation of the company on April 12th. Secondly, Biblio-Globus in addition to a charter program together with VIM-avia by Boeing-757 (four times a week), intends to launch charter flights with KD-avia by Boeing-737 (three times per week). Besides, Luzhniki tour will consolidate Sibir flights starting from June three times a week by A-310. Furthermore, Vesma Travel Company that last year co-operated with Continental Airlines will operate its own flights together with KD-avia by Boeing-737.
Nevertheless, travel market players that increased their air volume doubt the possible excess of flights however explaining their enthusiasm differently. Thus, General Director of Super Nova, German Bagiryan, says that new charters are necessary due to lack of Aeroflot blocks. ‘Launching this flight we do not risk at all as we have our clients’, commented Bagiryan in the interview to a BANKO correspondent. Moreover, the expert banks on the increase of Russian tourist flow to Cyprus considering last year when, according to Demetris Demetriou, Director of Moscow Office of Cyprus Tourism Organization, the tourist flow from Russia increased by 16,5%. ‘In case of the same growth dynamics the number of flights will be reasonable’, said Mikhail Gribkov, Commercial Director of VIM-avia.
Meanwhile, Alexander Tugolukov, Director of Biblio Globus, believes that the other consolidators will moderate their charter plans if necessary.
Furthermore, travel market players are concerned about the possible excess of charter flights due to shortage of hotels in Cyprus (news/15.03). However, Apostolos Georgalides, Managing Director of Mosaic – Incoming Company in Cyprus – does not agree: ‘we have enough hotel rooms for Russian tourists even if the tourist flow from Russia doubles’, said Georgalides in the interview to a BANKO correspondent.
