Bird flu precautions at Moscow airports

   Due to the outbreak of bird flu, all passengers arriving to Moscow from Turkey are being examined at the airports. Sanitary departments of the airports check aircrafts and talk to passengers and crew. In case of the possibility of any risk the airport medical services are on stand-by. ‘There is a document specifying the measures to be taken in case of possible risk’, said Angelina Matrosova, the head of Sheremetievo Airport PR Centre. These measures include placing a plane in a sanitary zone and taking medical precautions. ‘There have been no official directives from the government regarding bird flu yet. All medical precautions have been the initiative of the airports and have been carried out only through the consent of passengers. They do not affect check-in and passport control processes’, said Konstantin Kononikhin, the head of Vnukovo press service.
   According to Domodedovo press service, checking aircrafts is a common procedure for the flights arriving from high risk regions. ‘Recently Turkey, Azerbaidjan, Armenia, Georgia have been included on the list of such regions’, said Svetlana Fufaeva, Domodedovo Press Service Representative. All Moscow airports confirmed that no cases regarding bird flu infection have been registered.
