Travel companies that plan charter programs to Turkey from Rostov-na-Donu are experiencing difficulties before the season start. Supposedly from September 17th to October 22nd - high season for Turkey - the airport in the city will be closed for reconstructions. As a result the duration of charter programs is questionable.
Although tour operators announced their plans for summer in December 2005, at present they have to wait for the decision of Aeroflot-Don – the local airline company. According to Konstantin Derevyanko, Press Secretary of the airline, during the reconstruction period flights will be realized either from the military airport (40-60 minutes by car from Rostov) either from Krasnodar. ‘However, the outcome is to be seen’, said Derevyanko without pointing out the exact date.
Meanwhile, Rostov market players are concerned about the uncertainty. ‘We need to decide about traffic volume, to know about prices the airline is going to set. If we have to shorten the programs prices for tickets will increase considerably’, said Natalia Kosmina, Director of Seven Wonders of The World travel company. Flights will increase in price even if flights are organized from the other airport: ‘the airport can accept only small aircraft therefore flights will have to be realized by Tu-134, which are less efficient than TU-154 which we planned to involve for charter flights to Turkey’, said Svetlana Zemtseva, Director of Rosintour.
Meanwhile, the second variant is more unfavourable for the majority of operators as in this case they will have to organize a five-hour transfer. ‘We plan to finally decide about the programs on March 6th, when we have a meeting with Aeroflot – Don’, said Alexander Mkrtchan, Director of Pink Elephant Travel Company.
